Are open houses worth it?

Sellers typically expect their REALTORS® to schedule open houses as a tactic to lure buyers to their properties, but many real estate professionals view such events as a waste of the seller's time given that they have to clean, de-clutter and otherwise prepare for buyers to take a tour--and then disappear from the property for the day. Most agents say they have not sold a home as the result of an open house, as buyers tend to search for properties online and schedule appointments to see houses that catch their interest. However, many buyers prefer open houses because they can tour several properties in one day, and they do not have to commit to working with a particular agent.
